| Quote of the Week |
| “Serve others for they are reflections of the same Entity of which you are yourself another reflection. No one of you has any authenticity, except in reference to the Original. Feel always kinship with all creation.” Sri Sathya Sai Baba Being authentic is a challenge for each of us and as the energy around us changes so rapidly it has become a requirement for our own growth, evolution and success. It can be a painful and difficult process when we must look objectively at our own short-comings and challenges. It is also a big leap when we decide to open ourselves up to the world. As we strip away all of the things we have used in the past to hide our true selves we will find there are those who will walk away, those who will ridicule and those who will applaud our efforts and courage. No matter what anyone may say or do you must remain fully and completely truthful and authentic to the deepest depths of your soul. When you can do this you will have it all! Stop Feeding Those Love Handles with Cortisol
Stress and Weight Gain
Hi everyone! Okay – you don’t have to stop eating…. Today I want to talk about Cortisol and ways to release it from the body. The stress induced chemical of cortisol does a lot of damage in the body and definitely changes your digestive system.
Some of us manage stress better than others but I feel that we all have some level of stress in our lives on a regular and continual basis. Because of the stress that affects the majority of us I know that we all need to finds ways to release it and especially to release the chemical cortisol.
So here is the short list of things to do to reduce cortisol in the body. It turns out it is really about releasing stress in the body. We tend to hold things in our body, especially when the mind has run out of room or energy to process the stress.
The List:
- · A good night’s sleep
- · Music that makes you happy
- · Regular massage
- · Laughing, movies, reading
- · Regular, balanced meals
- · Moderation with caffeine and alcohol
- · Deep breathing
- · Comfort foods and drinks – always in moderation
- · Being outside in nature
- · Treating yourself
- · Supplements of vitamins and minerals
- · Meditation or hypnosis
Then do them! Consistently!!

Getting a Handle on Those Love Handles
Stress and Weight Gain
Hi everyone! Welcome to my new blog. In this blog I will share my own experience and knowledge in many areas and specifically as they relate to you finding ideal health and balance in your life.
Today’s blog is about stress and how it factors into weight gain. Stress is a constant factor for most of us these days and can have many negative effects on the body. Today I want to focus on the effects in relation to weight.
Stress produces adrenaline, corticotrophin (CRH) and cortisol. All of these chemicals relate to our innate fight or flight instinct. The body doesn’t know the difference between a true threat and 21st century stress. These stress chemicals, when released, severely inhibit or shut down our digestive system.
The typical response to extreme stressors is a loss of appetite but is almost always followed by a sharp increase in appetite. In the article links below three of our nationally recognized experts talk about stress and weight gain.
For me, the more stressed my life became the hungrier I was and I was NOT hungry for water rich, vitamin rich foods. I wanted ice cream, candy bars and fattening, comfort food. I went from a size 4 to a size 14 over several years.
Because we all live with a constant underlying current of stress and then we are hit with spikes of extreme stress, we all need to learn to release stress daily in order to at least stem the flow of the negative effects of stress.
There are many ways to release stress. Exercise daily is an excellent way to do this. My favorite way is hypnosis or meditation daily and daily exercise. Studies have shown that ten minutes of deep hypnosis or meditation each day is equal to one hour of deep REM sleep to the body and mind. It is especially effective when you set the intention in the mind to consciously and unconsciously release stress.
I have used hypnosis or meditation daily for many years and have found that hypnosis is much easier because you don’t have to turn off the mind. You simply follow directions and allow your subconscious mind to relax your body. Hypnosis is how I have maintained my own healthy weight for over five years.
